Ever wondered about how to use Social Media properly? Wonder no more…
Last Thursday we were joined by Gareth Davies who was producing shows like Strictly Come Dancing and helping to carve the career of countless TV presenters- from Claudia Winkleman to Graham Norton.
A former music and drama graduate from Royal Holloway Gareth went on to work at the BBC for 9 years on countless TV shows before going freelance. His work has taken him around the globe and 2 years ago he set up The Presenter Studio – a TV Presenter Training Company that gives people access to the industry. The business has seen presenters go on to present for all the major channels and continues to make the stars of tomorrow.
You can find his talk below.

Now this is not something we expected to happen just yet, but according to WiredUK Magazine’s October issue, we host the 4th largest tech/startup meetups in the UK.
“Smart people need to be near each other to share ideas, recruit one another and form communities. Hubs such as Silicon Valley show how important this is during the day”
This is what Royal Holloway Entrepreneurs is all about. It’s about bringing young passionate students together and help them achieve new heights while they’re enjoying every minute of it.

Awards
It’s with great pleasure that I’d like to share with you that Royal Holloway Entrepreneurs has been awarded the NACUE Venture Creation Catalyst Award 2011 at last week’s Society Awards. This Award will join our Award from last year (Best new Society of the Year) on the wall.
The NACUE Venture Creation Catalyst award gets handed out to the society that is the most successful in motivating and guiding students to start their own enterprise.
This is a great result after a year packed with amazing Events. We’re very proud that Royal Holloway Entrepreneurs has won 2 out of the 8 Awards handed out over the last 2 years and we will be working hard to ensure that Royal Holloway Entrepreneurs continues to be an award winning society in the years to come.
NACUE is getting ready to hand out this year’s NACUE Society Awards.
If you have a few minutes to spare, we’d really appreciate it if you could take the time an answer a few questions and nominate us for the different awards that are up for grabs. It honestly won’t take more than 10 minutes and it will allow us to become even bigger and better next year!

This week, it’s all about music and web startups! Join us this Thursday at 6pm in Tommy’s!
We’re happy to welcome back James Proud, the Founder and CEO of GigLocator.com
James is also responsible for the design and development processes of the site and related properties. Prior to founding GigLocator, as a designer and developer he worked with companies such as Coca-Cola and Universal Music creating web presences for some of their live music events and artists. Teaching himself to build a website at a young age, moving onto freelancing for companies and other start-ups; a natural progression into his start-up GigLocator.
James founded GigLocator at the age of 17 and in the meantime has partnered up with many ticket providers to provide tickets from Germany to the UK and even the US.
This event is a definite must for everyone who is interested in doing anything even remotely related with entrepreneurship, technology or music and the music industry.

NACUE’s National Varsity Pitch Competition is the UK’s premier start-up competition for university students and graduates across the country. It celebrates university enterprise by showcasing the brightest young minds and the breadth of businesses coming out of UK universities.
Young entrepreneurs will compete in one of seven industry semi-finals and seven finalists will have the opportunity to move on to the national finale in May 2011 after receiving a full day of training, one-on-one mentorship and coaching. Pitching to a panel of judges made up of some of the UK’s foremost entrepreneurs, investors, innovators and media personalities, the finalists will pitch for seedfunding, startup support and the National Title.
In this 125th anniversary year of the founding of Royal Holloway by a Victorian entrepreneur, the first Thomas Holloway Entrepreneurship Lecture will examine the career path two entrepreneurs followed upon leaving University. Nick Wheeler, a Geography graduate, will explain how he turned a student hobby and £7,000 into Charles Tyrwhitt, a major international fashion brand, giving him a personal worth of over £30m. David Hathirami, a Computer Science graduate, will describe how he built the internet upstart, A Suit That Fits.
Hosted by Royal Holloway Entrepreneurs and the School of Management.
All welcome. Admission free. No booking necessary. Followed by a wine reception in the Windsor Building Foyer.
